Opening a file in your editor

Handing a changed file to your code editor, at the first line that changed.

Select a changed file and press ⇧⌘E, or the button with the editor’s icon in the file’s header. It opens one file at a time, and only a file that is still on disk: a deleted file has nothing to open.

The icon is the editor the file will open in; the arrow beside it lists the others.

The same command is in the Repository menu and in the file’s context menu.

Where the file opens

At the first changed line, when the diff has one and the editor can open at a line. If the editor does not already have the repository open, Innesta opens the repository with the file, so you get the project and not a lone document.

A binary file opens in the application macOS uses for it.

A Working Copy search result can open at the match instead. For a removed line, Innesta uses the next surviving line, or the last line in the file. The position depends on the editor’s support.

The command stays available while a Git operation is running: opening a file changes nothing in the repository.

Another editor, just this once

When other supported editors are installed, the arrow beside the button lists them, and so does Open With in the context menu. Picking one opens the file there and changes no setting. Editor Settings…, at the bottom of either list, opens the editor settings, which decide the editor the button uses.
