Finding text in a diff

Search the loaded diff and move between matches across hunks and panes.

With the diff focused, press ⌘F and type in the find bar. ⌘G moves to the next match and ⇧⌘G to the previous one, scrolling to it even when it is in another hunk. Escape closes the bar.

The find bar counts matches and moves between them in the loaded diff.

The search covers the loaded diff, including added, removed and context lines. To find unchanged text outside that context, widen it to Entire File first. To search across your changed files, use Working Copy search.

The same bar works in the Working Copy, History, stashes, comparisons and the Diff Review window. An All files view searches the files loaded in that view. In side-by-side layout, matches follow the before pane and then the after pane within each hunk; unchanged text can match in both panes.

The query stays while you switch layouts, resize the window or change wrapping. Large raw text previews reveal a section around each match. Binary and image previews have no text to search.
